芹沢 SERIZAWA Developer’s Log 1 Intro

This blog will be my developer's journal through the process of creating "SERIZAWA," an interactive fiction game, that tells the story of Dr. Serizawa from the original Japanese film "Gojira."

This is going to be my devlog for an interactive fiction story inspired by my love of the original Japanese Godzilla movie. After seeing Oppenheimer in 70mm last year, I’ve wanted to give the character of Dr. Serizawa from the mentioned Godzilla film a game telling the film’s events through his perspective. If you haven’t seen the original Japanese Godzilla film, I encourage you to watch it but to break down Dr. Serizawa’s character quickly, he is the Oppenheimer in the movie.

Instead of creating the nuclear bomb, he creates a weapon called the Oxygen Destroyer. Which is supposedly stronger than any current nuclear bomb of the time, and just like Oppenheimer, he is haunted by how destructive his research could be. Funny enough you would think Dr. Serizawa is the main character in the film, he isn’t. He only shows up about halfway through the film and is only briefly shown after that until the very end. So I think it’s obvious he needs a little more love.
