芹沢 SERIZAWA Developer’s Log 6: Serizawa Underwater

I guess I should preface with saying spoiler alert for a 70-year-old movie, but yeah, spoilers ahead.

At the movie's end, Dr. Serizawa and Ogata dive down to where Godzilla is sleeping to unleash the Oxygen Destroyer on the terrible beast. It is one of the very final moments of the film, capturing Dr. Serizawa’s and Godzilla’s last moments alive.

Dr. Serizawa descended to the depths of Tokyo Bay holding the Oxygen Destroyer. Godzilla 1954.

Dr. Serizawa emerges as a tragic hero, haunted by his creation of the devastating Oxygen Destroyer. His fear of the weapon's potential misuse—a weapon more powerful than a hydrogen bomb—compels him to guard its secrets zealously.

In the end, he agrees to use it once, destroys all his research, and then, after detonating the bomb, he chooses to die with Godzilla, so all the weapon’s knowledge dies with him.

Naturally, this being such an important scene, it has to go into the game.

This is what I have right now. I’m not quite sure what color I will be using for the water, and I think some little changes need to be made to the diving suit. It was a much more challenging thing to draw than I thought it would be.
